As the clean up begins, our thoughts are with the millions of people who are suffering the after-effects of Hurricane Sandy. New York City and the surrounding areas took a strong hit which has resulted in loss of life, flooding, fires, water contamination, structural and equipment damage, power outages, and much more. Among this devastation, The Bone Marrow Foundation has been lucky. All staff members have been accounted for, and the building that houses our office appears to be unscathed.
Unfortunately, this does not mean that our services will not be impacted. Due to flooding in another area of the city, the internet in our office (and homes and offices across the city) is inoperable. And, the storm’s effect on the public transit system, bridges, tunnels, and roadways have made it impossible for some staff members to leave their homes and/or get to the office. Factors like these may reduce our response time in some situations. We will prioritize urgent matters as they arise, and we will return to business as usual as soon as it is possible.
